Brizee Beach and that Christmas Feeling!

After a fun filled day in Noosa Rich and I planned to spend the day in Brisbane, mainly at Southbank.

Southbank is filled with restaurants, shops and bars but most importantly The Streets beach, or as Rich and I called it, Brizee Beach.

A man made beach along the banks of the Brisbane River with an outdoor pool providing the ultimate beach destination without leaving the city and swimming without getting a mouthful of salt water. Perfect!

Rich and I spent a good few hours at Brizee Beach, reading, relaxing, swimming and playing bat and ball. Bat and ball is a tradition of ours when on holiday, so when we saw one on offer in the local sports shop when we arrived in Brisbane, we just had to buy it!

This was the day that Rich started his love affair with Guzman y Gomez burrito’s too. Having seen the burrito shop on our big day out with Bec and Tom, Tom gave the place his firm recommendation and so it became our lunch spot for the day. The pulled pork and chipotle burrito was delicious and having wanted a burrito for three days since first seeing Guzman y Gomez, Rich was one happy man.

“It was lovely to see the twinkling fairy lights amidst the market stalls.”

After a shower and change, Rich and I headed out to take a look around the Brisbane Christmas Markets and watch the fireworks at Southbank.

The Christmas markets aren’t a patch on the Manchester ones but it was lovely to see the twinkling fairy lights amidst the market stalls and sit having a drink watching the Christmas shoppers.

After a not so festive drink of white wine for me and Rekorderlig for Rich (mulled wine wasn’t an option), we headed over to the river to get a good seat for the fireworks. On our way we passed Brizee Beach, packed to the rafters both on the sand and in the water with people watching a special showing of Santa Claus the movie on the open air screen.

Rich and I didn’t know what to expect from the Brisbane firework display but what we saw was spectacular.  A fifteen minute explosion of fireworks high above the lights of the city, all timed perfectly to Christmas music. Brisbane did themselves proud, they were fantastic. I don’t think fireworks will ever be as good if Mariah Carey isn’t singing ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ along with them!

Whistling Christmas songs all the way back to the car, Rich and I were very much filled with Christmas spirit and once again had the feeling that Christmas was on the way.
