Nuts about Noosa

Eighty five miles north of Brisbane is the beautiful coastal town of Noosa. I loved Noosa when I visited Australia ten years ago and it didn’t disappoint on this visit either.

The two hour drive up Bruce Highway (could a highway be more Australian?!) passed without any problems and we arrived to a sun soaked Noosa.

We headed to the National Park first to walk the trails around Noosa Heads. There were a lot trails to choose from and we decided to head to the top first before descending back down the other side of the park to the coastal path.

“There were no views of the ocean or beaches to take in, just lots and lots and lots of trees.”

The walking was moderate, it would have been easier if it wasn’t in the heat of the midday sun! We followed the winding path through the forest to the top of Noosa hill. Had it not been for the cairn built there, I’m sure we would have missed it!

The top is covered with trees so there were no views of the ocean or beaches to take in, just lots and lots and lots of trees. We took the obligatory photo at the top and then started our descent to the eastern side of the park where the ocean meets the golden sands of Sunshine beach.

Hell’s Gate provided the perfect viewing point for us to look down across Sunshine beach, with stunning turquoise water, golden sand and waves rolling in it looked a picture of perfection.

“We had been walking for just over three hours in the sweltering heat.”

After following the coastal path back around to our starting point we had our first snake encounter! It was sunbathing in the hedgerow to the right of the path, we didn’t stay too long to look at it, just long enough to take a photo before we continued on our walk.

We had been walking for just over three hours in the sweltering heat by the time we got back to our car and we were ready for food, so headed into Noosa town centre.

Noosa is filled with shops and restaurants, there’s a really relaxed beach vibe in the town but with an air of sophistication.

We settled in to the Noosa Beach House for a lunch of fish and chips. The portions weren’t the biggest to be honest but with the amount of food we have been eating whilst travelling, a small portion was probably the best thing for us!

The afternoon called for sunbathing, body surfing in the waves and enjoying the beach on offer in Noosa. The sea was crystal clear, which was good for spotting the jelly fish and turtles swimming in the shallow waters.

As five o’clock approached we really didn’t want to leave but with the temperature dropping as the sun went down we left the beach and said our fond farewells to Noosa.

I’m sure we’ll be back again one day.
