Viva Las Vegas

Leaving the Grand Canyon we had a very long three hundred mile drive to reach Las Vegas in Nevada.

“Quite simply, it was huge and a very impressive sight!”

We stocked up with water and snacks, turned the radio up, watched as the miles passed by and we eventually crossed into the state of Nevada.

Thirty miles outside of Las Vegas we stopped off to take a look at the vast Hoover Dam, on the border between Arizona and Nevada in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River.

Quite simply, it was huge and a very impressive sight!

We also stopped at a viewing point over the Lake Mead Recreational Area, created by the Hoover Dam as it blocked the Colorado river and backed up waters to create the basin and coves of Lake Mead.

After over six hours on the road we finally found ourselves driving down Las Vegas Boulevard just as the sun was setting.

With all the traffic on the road it seemed to take a long time to reach our hotel. We could see it, we just had to wait a long time to reach it!

“The highlight of the night was definitely watching the beautiful Bellagio fountain display.”

Our hotel room was a very welcome sight after a long day of travelling and compared to our usual hostel rooms and bunk beds it felt very luxurious indeed!

For our first night in Vegas we headed out for cocktails, walked along the main strip, watched street entertainers and took in the sights of very grand, world famous hotels.

After a couple of cocktails, Rich got roped into taking part in one of the street shows as a man jumped over him and three other tourists!

The highlight of the night was definitely watching the beautiful Bellagio fountain display,  a spectacular show with music, lights and what I can only describe as dancing water!

The next day we chilled out around the hotel pool, soaking up the sunshine before heading for a big night out to finish our travels on a high.

After a gorgeous meal at Stack we went to watch the Michael Jackson One show featuring Cirque Du Soleil.

“Before we knew it, it was the last day of our round the world adventure and we were heading home.”

I love musicals and going to the theatre, seeing a show while in Las Vegas was an absolute dream come true and I couldn’t have been more impressed. It was incredible!

Of course we couldn’t leave without trying our luck on the casino floor and while we didn’t gamble vast amounts of money, we ended the night up on what we started with so definitely felt the rush of the win!

Before we knew it, it was the last day of our round the world adventure and we were heading home.

On the way to the airport we stopped off to take a photo of the iconic Las Vegas sign but didn’t hang around long as the check-in desk was calling us.

After months of travelling and experiencing the most amazing adventures all round the world, we had mixed emotions about heading home.

We were sad to be leaving the freedom of travelling with only hand luggage behind us but we were excited to return home to friends and family and continue the adventure of life together.
