Saying Au Revoir in Auckland

Rich and I spent our last three nights in New Zealand in Auckland. Being one of the top ten most expensive cities in the world to live in, we were thrilled to be able to stay with my old Didsbury Devil’s netball buddy Sarah and her husband Andy!

We only had one full day to explore Auckland before we needed to return our hire car, so whilst enjoying a lovely Indian takeaway on our first night with Sarah and Andy, they gave us the low down on where to go.

Unfortunately our day sightseeing was marred somewhat by the weather. We managed to escape some of the rain and headed to Mount Eden, the highest volcano in the city at one hundred and ninety six metres high.

“Our final farewell would not be goodbye forever but au revoir for now.”

Not only did Mount Eden have fabulous three hundred and sixty degree views, it also boasted a grass lined crater that is fifty metres deep in the centre of the cone! It was spectacular to see and Rich and I enjoyed a walk around it whilst taking in the city views.

With the wind picking up and dark clouds closing in, we drove through the city and down to the marina where we had a lovely view of the yachts and Auckland Harbour Bridge. The marina is the largest in the southern hemisphere and there were more boats than we could count.

Although the views on our day out weren’t sunny, the evening sunset from Sarah and Andy’s terrace was spectacular! Watching the sun set on the horizon we were thankful for all the wonderful things we had been able to do during our time in New Zealand and we felt like our final farewell would not be goodbye forever but au revoir for now.
