Crikey mate!

“On what can only be described as the most humid day ever, we went to the zoo.”

We left the luxury of Bec and Tom’s apartment early in the morning, headed for Hervey Bay where we were due to depart on our Fraser Island tour the following day. On our way there we stopped at Australia Zoo, founded by Steve Irwin ‘The Crocodile Hunter’.

On what can only be described as the most humid day ever, we went to the zoo! Thankfully we did see lots of animals, they weren’t too hot and hiding away all the time. The highlight of our trip was seeing the bird, crocodile and koala shows, not all in the arena at the same time I may add.

“He was even happier that our travels along the east coast headed no further north.”

The bird show included a condor, with a wing span of just over 2 metres it was amazing to see this bird so close. I have seen wild ones in South America but they were flying so high in the sky that it wasn’t easy to see how large they actually were. They are BIG!

Rich loved the crocodile show, he didn’t like the fact that crocodiles are so common in North Queensland however, so he was even happier that our travels along the east coast headed no further north than Hervey Bay.

We spent a good amount of time walking around the zoo and looking for the animals. We saw too many to mention them all but we certainly ticked off the Australian must sees, like the kangaroos, koalas, crocodiles, dingos, tasmanian devils and cassowaries.

As late afternoon approached, there was thunder in the skies above us and we made it back to the car just in time to pull away as the heavens opened.
