“The first gift Rich bought me was a penguin teddy.”
On our first date I told Rich about my phobia of picking up animals. The thought of lifting them up or touching them and feeling their bones through their skin freaks me out somewhat, what more can I say, that’s just the way I am.
It was then that Rich declared my perfect pet would be a penguin. Packed full of fat there was no way I’d feel a bone in its body if I were to pat or cuddle a penguin. The first gift Rich bought me was a penguin teddy. Since that day penguins have meant a lot to us and we were really looking forward to seeing the penguins at Boulders Beach!
We stayed in Simons Town for one night, only a few hundred metres from Boulders Beach it was the perfect location to see them and then head down to Cape Point the next day.
So what can I say about the penguins? There are hundreds of them, they are really cute and they are a really popular attraction.
A boardwalk has been created to keep tourists off the main beach where the penguins gather but you can get up close with them on surrounding beaches, which to our delight we managed to do.
“We’ll have the memories of these tiny bundles of cuteness for ever more.”
We were able to see them nesting on the beach and back up on the land, playing in the surf and generally just being adorably cute, just like you would expect a penguin to be.
Given our weight restriction of travelling with hand luggage only, we weren’t able to pop one in my back pack to take home with us, but we’ll have the memories of these tiny bundles of cuteness for ever more.
